If you have a drawer crammed full of photos from family trips, why not put them to use in a photo memory book? Marty Brooks of Michael's Arts and Crafts creates a sample page that looks like a giant postage stamp. It makes a great gift to help Dad remember that special trip.

    Tips:

    • Use acid-free papers to help preserve your photos. Products that aren't acid-free cause photos to deteriorate over time.

    • Use a small paper-cutter for trimming and cropping photos or trimming acid-free papers.

    • Use decorative-edged scissors to create interesting borders. Fiskars offers several patterns in its Paper EdgersB. line.

    • Use acid-free glue, tape and pens. Acid-free stickers are also available.

    Memory-Book Page for Dad

    Materials:

Acid-free background paper with map pattern (if you want to use a real map, you must laminate it)
    Blue acid-free paper
    Yellow acid-free paper
    Red acid-free paper
    Acid-free stickers
    Acid-free glue
    Acid-free pens
Fiskars Paper Edger scissors with scalloped edge

    1. This page is designed to look like a giant cancelled postage stamp, with the photo depicting the picture on the stamp. Cut scalloped edges along yellow and blue papers, sizing the papers a little larger than the photo (figure A).

    2. Place glue on the back of the photo, and stick it to the yellow paper. Apply glue to the yellow paper, and stick it to the blue paper. Glue all to the map-background paper (figure B).

    3. Cut two narrow wavy strips of red paper to look like the lines on a cancelled postage stamp. Glue them to the left of the photo in the position they'd have on a cancelled stamp (figure C).

    4. Write a phrase on a piece of yellow paper, and glue it under the photo to look like a postmark. You could include trip details such as the date, who's in the photo, etc. (figure D).

    5. Add appropriate stickers. Let your imagination go wild.
