Project by Jennifer Jensen.Jennifer shows how to create a card for dad with balsa wood and leather strips.
1. Cut one of the two balsa wood pieces in half, into two 4" x 4" pieces, using scissors or a paper cutter. 2. With heavy glue, place four hinges onto 4" x 8" piece of wood. Place bottom of hinge to top of bottom wood. Then glue top portion of hinge to the two separate pieces of 4" x 4" wood, matching the hinges on both sides (figure A).
3. Cut metal mesh to fit front side of card and then to wrap around back to form a pocket. Secure pocket on back of card with small glue dot in corner (see again figure A).
4. Cut a 1" x 16" strip of leather and round the edges on both ends. Staple ends together (figure B). Make hole and set eyelets in both ends (see again figure B).
5. Using brown textured paper and metal stamps, imprint "DAD" on paper and adhere to metal label holder. Using mini brads, secure to leather strip (figure C).
6. Wrap leather around card and hold in place with a small piece of ribbon (see again figure C).
7. Staple photos inside of card, and add notes, coupons, gift certificates, or favorite sporting or event tickets, etc.
