  • Half a Birthday Party
  • If your birthday falls at an inconvenient time, why not celebrate twice a year?
    From "Scrap"
    episode DSCD-105

Host Scott Petti throws half a birthday party—perfect if you are one of those people who has a birthday that falls during an inconvenient time—around a holiday or when everyone's on vacation. This allows you to celebrate twice a year. Just count six months after your actual birthday and throw yourself a bash—the twist? All of the decorations are half the size of the traditional ones.

    Half a Birthday Party

    Materials:

    birthday cards
    wrapping paper
    birthday plates
    birthday tablecloth
    balloons
    party hats
    party blowers
    think candles
    birthday cake
    piñata
pin the tail on the donkey set

    1. Just count six months from the actual birthday to find the half-birthday and throw a half-birthday party.

    2. Use the invitations to explain the "half" concept, guests should bring cards cut in half (figure A), gift boxes wrapped halfway, guest can even go in together to bring each half of a gift or come in half of two different outfits.

    3. Now it is time to decorate. Cut "Happy Birthday" plates in half, balloons should only be blown up halfway, and cut party blowers in half.

    4. For the tablecloth take a "Happy Birthday" tablecloth and cut it in half then use a solid table cloth in a contrasting color to complete the look (figure B).

    5. Make half party hats by cutting hats lengthwise. Then fold the hat onto a matte board to reshape the cone and glue in place. Punch a hole and re-string the elastic.

    6. Make half-birthday candles by slicing them in half with a craft knife. This requires thick candles and steady hands.

    7. For the "half birthday" cake make a full 8" round cake. After it is baked, cut each layer in half and put them on top of each other (figure C). After assembling, frost and enjoy!

    8. Don't forget the games—pin the tail on the donkey and cut everything in half or cut a giant piñata in half and then reseal and fill with candy.

    9. For the grand finale—sing "Happy Birthday" halfway.

Note: These suggestions are just the beginning, be as creative as you can for your Half-Birthday party!
