Spiral Album- Cut chipboard to desired size for the covers.
- Cover chipboard with a coat of gel medium or Mod Podge. Lay down on upside down patterned paper. Flip over, and "brayer" with a scrunched piece of wax paper to smooth out.
- Take sandpaper and begin to sand the paper until you find the "edges" of the chipboard (figure A). Sand heavily along these edges, creating a white line. The patterned paper will easily tear away from the cardstock, saving you from having to trim the paper, and resulting in a cool distressed edge.
- To further distress the edge, rub with the sandpaper again after torn.
- Do this to each piece of chipboard, then line up the top and bottom pieces to punch holes for spiral binding.
- Wrap wire around a paintbrush or thick marker to create a spiral. You need as many "loops" as there are punch holes.
- With cardstock cut to size and appropriate holes punch to form the inner pages, line everything up and begin to "feed" the wire through the holes (figure B) until it is all the way to the end. Bend ends of wire inwards to prevent it from undoing.
Note: It is fun to have a book that opens two ways. The back chipboard is one piece, and the front is cut into two pieces that can open tow ways.
Mini-Thai Album- The album cover was created the same way as the Spiral Album, but with strips of ribbon tied to form the binding (figure C) instead of wire.
- The pages were made from 4 x 6 photos cut to 4 x 4, and adhered back to back.
- Then holes are punched down the side to line up with the holes in the cover.
Textured Canvas- Spread texture paste all over the canvas board with a plastic knife.
- When dry, color with acrylic paint.
- When the paint is dry, add another color to sections of the canvas. Blend with baby wipes to create a washed effect (figure D).
- Mount photos onto cardstock for extra strength, attach to canvas.
- Embellish with flowers, buttons and ribbons.
- Create a title with chipboard letters.

Here's a view of the inside of the Journey Folder Album.

|
Journey Folder Album (Web Exclusive)- Trim file folder to desired size. Sand around the edges to distress.
- Choose one patterned cardstock to line the left hand inside of the folder. Trim to size, sand edges and adhere with glue stick.
- Choose a piece of solid cardstock to make a "minibook" for the inside of the folder (figure E). Cut into three 4 x 12" strips and score down the middle. Set aside.
- With remaining cardstock (pattern and plain) choose order for them to be placetop to bottom. Trim bottom piece to line right hand side of folder, adhere to folder.
- Cut the other pieces the same width as the bottom piece, but each one approximately 1/4" shorter than the one beneath so they can be staggered.
- Sand around the edges of the patterned cardstock.
- Score each piece approximately 1" from the top.
- Stitch all the pieces together directly onto the folder.
- Line up "minibook" into the spine of the folder and punch holes with anywhere hole punch.
- Feed ribbon through from the inside and tie with a slipknot on the outside of the folder.
- Stamp "journey" onto the front of the folder with acrylic paint.
- Embellish book with travel related stickers, tags, words, photos, memorabilia, etc.
