Paradise CoveMaterials: Colorful Iris Folding Book (IVT 209) Iris Folding Papers (IVP2040, IVP 2031) Holographic paper or ribbon Background embossing stencil (AE 1216) Font "Marker Felt"(Epson) Royal Blue 12 x 12 Sheet Metallic brads copper (Memory Makers) Perga Glue embossing stylus chocolate brown card stock tan card stock vellum navy hemp cord double-sided tape tape scissors light box or sunny window - Photocopy the "Parasol" pattern from the Colorful Iris Folding book. Cut out the parasol and trace the shape onto tan colored card stock (front side down). Cut out the umbrella shape with a hobby knife. Cut out the handle from brown card stock separately.
- Cut approximately 3/4" strips of 4 colors of paper that will coordinate with your design. (The example uses a light teal foil and teal color from IVP2031 and a pink foil and light blue foil from IVP 2040). Fold the strips in half lengthwise (color to the outside).
- Place the cut out design on top of the Iris Folding pattern (front side down).
- Sort your paper strips into pile in front of you. Choose which color you wish to have at the base of the umbrella.
- Place the folded edge of the paper strip along line numbered 1.
- Cut the paper strip so that a small amount overlaps onto the card stock and tape in place.
- Take your choice of a second color and place the folded edge along the line numbered 2, cut to size and tape in place.
- Complete the above step for color 3 and color 4 strips.
- The umbrella only uses 4 colors. Place the folded edge of the first color used along the line numbered 5. Continue rotating the colored paper strips in the same order until all of the numbers have been covered. The colors should spiral in towards the center of your design.
- You should have a small hole left in the center of your design. Place a piece of holographic paper or ribbon over this hole.
- Decorate your design as desired. In the sample the tan paper was dry embossed using the background stencil (AE 1216). Print Paradise Cove on vellum and attach to the design using blue hemp cord. Pierce two small holes pierced through the vellum and the tan card stock. Place the hemp cord through the holes and run it along the back of the design. Tie knots in each end so that the vellum stays in place.
- Use Pergo Glue to adhere blue blue hemp cord along the outline of the umbrella. Then, use double-sided tape to attach to the blue 12 x 12 page.
- Mount your photos as desired. (In this example the coastal scene was mounted on tan card stock and attached with double-sided tape into the upper right corner. The seagull and the couple pictures were first mounted on chocolate brown card stock and then attached to the page with double-sided tape.)
- Print journaling on vellum and attach to page with copper metallic brads.
