  • Interview-Style Journaling
  • From "Scrapbooking"
    episode SCB-529

Guest Tricia Morris preserves family history with one-on-one interview-style journaling. Here, she shares some of her tips.

Consider gathering the following information during an interview:

    • Ancestor's date of birth, name, photo
    • Life experiences: travel; day-to-day life (laundry, food preparation, etc.); technology; toys; games or special interests
    • Simply allow the subject (your relative) to talk about what he or she found interesting or important about the time. The time you spend will mean so much to a relative (especially one that's older) and will provide informational gems that will add depth and meaning to your page.

Finally, consider doing research on information that can be used to supplement the timeline, such as the cost of a home during the same time period, or popular songs and movies.
