Celebrate Your Child's Artwork- Copy It. Color copy your child's artwork and size it to fit your page design. If the artwork is too cumbersome to copy as is, take a digital picture of it and then size the picture to your liking (figure A).
- Tape It.Cover the image with a sheet of Treasure Tape by peeling the backing off the tape and pressing the copy of the artwork onto the exposed tape so that the image is now covered with the tape. It is best to line up the top edges of the artwork with the tape first and then slowly press the rest down onto the tape, especially since you can't reposition the tape on the paper. Once the image is fully adhered to the tape sheet, smooth it out by pressing it down with your fingertips, a credit card or brayer. If you have an air bubble, simply prick it with a pin and then smooth it out. If you have accidental creases, you can use your embellishments strategically to cover them up. Trim around the image to your liking and then peel back the tape's top protective liner to expose its stickiness. The top line can be used while you are decorating the image to cover up one area while you work on another (figure B).
- Embellish It. Use the image under the sticky tape as your design template and start decorating it with all your scrapbooking supplies. (In the page shown, embroidery threads and paper scraps were used to embellish the image.) When using embroidery threads (or fibers), simply guide the thread with one hand while pressing it into place with the other (figure C). Tweezers, craft stick, awl of wooden skewer can also be used to press them into place. You have lots of choices so be creative. Try outlining the image or adding decorative touches by "curling and coiling", "spiraling or zigzagging" the threads--anything goes.
- The paper scraps were torn into small bits and adhered directly onto the tape to create the look of broken china (figure D). This is a great use for all your paper scraps. You can also cut or punch your paper scraps to create a different effect. Best of all, if you don't like what you have done it is easy to pull the threads off and start again. You can add a little bit of embellishing and let a lot of the image show through, or on the other extreme, you can cover up the entire image completely.
- Bead It. When you are pleased with your design, place the item in a shallow pan and pour Diamond Beadlets over remaining exposed tape. This will cover over any remaining exposed tape while creating a nice 3D effect. Swirl beads with fingertips to fully cover all areas. Tap project on its side to dislodge any excess beads.
- Apply It. You can adhere your homemade applique to your page with bits of scrap tape, so don't forget to save all your tape scraps for these types of jobs.
