    Project by syndee holt

    Materials:

Gold Premo Sculpey Clay, 2 oz. for each frame (kneaded or "conditioned" and ready to work)
Clay dedicated pasta machine or something to make the clay flat
    Clay blade and craft blade
    Index cards for work surfaces
Acrylic roller or smooth water glass
Bamboo skewer for the textured frame
Woven paper for the paper textured frame
Scratch Art Islam texture plate from the Cultural Series (trimmed to fit a pasta machine)
    Small water sprayer
Gold Jacquard Pearl Ex Stamp pad
    Southworth fine parchment paper
Provo Craft Big Blok III paper
    Marcella Dimensional Stickers (travel images)

    Hand-Textured Frame

    1. Cut four 1/2" wide strips that overlap around your working copy of your image (figure A).

    2. Use a craft knife to trim the corners

    3. Use the back of the bamboo skewer to emboss a texture on all four sides, making sure to emboss over the seams (figure B).

    4. Swipe the top of the completed texture with your Pearl Ex Stamp Pad.

    5. Carefully move the index card to the baking sheet and bake as directed on the clay package.

    6. Once the clay is cooled, mount the photo and frame onto your page (figure C).

Making the Frame from the Textured Paper

    1. If you are using a pasta machine, roll the conditioned clay out on the widest setting. If you are rolling the clay by hand, roll it to about 1/8" thickness.

    2. Place the textured paper on top of the clay and roll the acrylic roller (or water glass) over it (figure D).

    3. This embosses the texture into the clay (figure E).

    4. Trim the inside of the frame first. Do this by taking a working copy of your photo and cutting it down just a little. Use this as a template to trim out the inside of the frame.

    5. Use your clay blade to trim the outside of the frame.

    6. Swipe the top of the clay with your Gold Pearl Ex Stamp Pad.

    7. Carefully move the index card containing the frame to the baking sheet and bake as directed.

    8. Once the clay is cooled, you can mount your photo and frame. By using a slightly smaller image to cut out the inside, you will not have to worry about exactly centering the image in the frame when you mount it.

Making Frame from the Texture Plate

    1. If you are using a pasta machine, roll the conditioned clay out on the widest setting. If you are rolling the clay by hand, roll it to about 1/8" thickness.

    2. Look carefully at the texture sheet--there are two sides to each of these sheets (figure F). Select the side you wish to use and lightly spray it with water. Water acts as a mold release with this clay.

    3. Place the texture sheet against the clay with the moistened side against the clay and roll through the widest setting of the pasta machine again (figure G).

    4. Now you can peel off the texture sheet to reveal a perfect texture (figure H).

    5. Next trim to the outside edge of the area you select for your frame. Use the center of the texture as the center of the frame, the part that will ultimately hold the photo. Use the index card as your work surface to cut on.

    6. Use the back edge of the clay blade as a straight edge to cut out the center of the frame with your craft blade.

    7. Once the frame is cut out, highlight the top portions of the texture by swiping the Gold Pear Ex Stamp Pad across the top.

    8. Carefully move the index card to the baking tray and bake the clay according to package directions. Once the clay is cooled, you can arrange it onto the page with your photo behind it.

    Creating the Page

    1. Layout your frames and photos.

    2. Chose your font and print on fine parchment paper.

    3. Cut out the text in swooping shapes and then use a new pencil eraser to add Gold Pearl Ex Stamp Pad details to the edges of the text boxes.

Tip from Sandi: White clay picks up dirt very easily. To avoid this try using rubbing alcohol or waterless hand cleaner to get rid of the grim on your hands before handling the clay.
