    Creating Clay Accents

    • Polymer clay is easy to use. The first step is to knead the clay to soften it up and make it more malleable.

    • Use a roller to roll out the clay. Make sure to use a roller that is dedicated to clay. Roll two colors to approximately 1/8". Place the lighter color on top of the darker color, and then roll them up to create a jelly roll effect. Take a craft knife and slice the rolled clay into 1/4" circles (figure A).

    • Place four circles next to each other (figure B) so they are touching each other so that when they bake so they will stick together. Transfer this to a cooking sheet and bake according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    • After it bakes, add a wire (figure C) for an adorable embellishment for your scrapbook page.

    • You can customize clay embellishments to match your scrapbook paper (figure D). This is a nice way to create a unified look on your scrapbook pages.

    • Another technique is to use air-dried clay. Keep the clay stored in an airtight bag until you are ready to use it so that it doesn't dry out.

    • Flatten the clay out and then take a rolling pin and roll it out to 1/4" thick. Take a foam rubber stamp and make an impression in the clay.

    • Take a craft knife and cut a border around the clay. Let it dry overnight.

    • Once dried, take a spray paint and paint. Paints come with a rock or stone texture, suede, metal, etc. Spray the clay pieces and then to accentuate them, take some acrylic paint and fill in the letters (figure E).
