    Pop Up Telephone

    1. Use the template to create pop-up telephone. Start by cutting the stencil out of the template (figure A).

    2. Score the lines on the template (figure B). Then, fold every score line.

    3. Place receiver through the top slit. Loop rubber band through the hole in the receiver and the hole at the base of the phone (figure C).

    4. The phone needs to be flat because when it folds down in the page, you don't want any lumpiness. Sandwich the phone and run it through a die cutting machine (figure D). If you don't have a die cutting machine, you could use a bone folder to go over all the folds.

    5. Place double sticky tape on the bottom of the phone and then pull the rubber band out. Join the bottoms together with the rubber band in the middle. Pull the rubber band tight and tie it in a knot. Cut the ends of the rubber band off. It is the tension of the rubber band that creates the pop-up activity.

    6. Adhere letters to spell "call me" on the rotary dial. Attach dial mechanism by layering D, C, E and fold F over in half. Bone-fold the phone in half. Attach the bottom front half of the base to the top side of the lower flap. The phone will fold flat when the door is closed and pop up when the door is opened. The rubber band acts as the spring.

    7. Build the closet by cutting a center piece 9" x 9", two side flaps each 6-1/2" x 9" and a top and bottom flap each 9" x 6". Attach the flaps to the center piece by overlapping 1" on the back on each side. Fold to center. Attach a second 9" x 9" piece of paper to the back. Adhere to 12" x 12" paper. (PDF file, above opposite the Materials list.)

    8. Add pockets to the doors using template as a guide. Punch flowers as decorative knobs. Attach with nails.

    9. Die cut circles, ovals, squares, rectangles and create mini books, tags. Use rivets to hang earrings and other keepsakes.

    10. Use the template (PDF file, above opposite the Materials list) as a pattern to paper piece dresses, shoes and banners.

    11. Create hanger rod by shaping wire and looping through rivets. Shape hangers from wire.

    12. Decorate the front of the closet doors with more pockets, photos, and lace trim.

    13. Add Velcro closures.
