Project by Julianna Hudgins.Julianna gets creative with a transfer technique using sandpaper and crayons to make a fun title.
1. Die-cut title letters out of white paper and 60-grit sandpaper using a combination of different Sizzlit and Sizzix alphabets. Remember to cut the letters backwards (on reverse) to read correctly once the process is complete.Note: You can also print or trace and cut out the letters and flower charms from the PDF Pattern file shown in and provided under figure A at the right.
2. Color each sandpaper letter heavily with crayons. Lightly tape down letters with double-stick tape. Place the white letters face down onto the colored sandpaper letters.
3. Use a heat tool to melt the crayon onto the white letter (figure B). Use a pair of tweezers to hold the letter down while it is being heated. Once the heat is removed, place pressure onto the letters with a solid flat surface. (We used our Sidekick cutting pad.) Remove the white letter to reveal the crayon transfer. Repeat this process for each letter.
4. Once all the letters are complete, add a blue glaze wash over each letter (as shown on a full sheet of paper in figure C and up close in figure B) and brown distress ink to the edges.
5. Cut a piece of light green paper to 4" x 12". Apply the same blue glaze used on the letters across the green strip. Once it is dry, go back and rough it up with some medium-grit sandpaper. Add brown distress ink to the edges. Adhere the completed title to the finished strip.
6. Attach the completed strip to a pink 12" x 12" background page. Cut a strip of canvas fabric and attach it over the seam where the green strip and background page meet.
7. Convert colored photographs to black and white and mat with pink paper. Print a journaling block on the same paper (figure D).
8. Die-cut flower charms out of white and pink fabric paper. Attach a small safety pin at the top of the charms. Attach the charms to blank pink squares (see again figure D). Arrange and attach all the squares to the background page.
9. Add ribbon to the upper right corner and a printed definition sticker down the right side of the page.
