Here are some extra tips from Joy for working with metal:

Look through your kitchen cabinets, junk drawers and hardware supplies to find textures to apply to sheet metal (figure A).

Use a garlic press to create a tiny screen texture. Use a potato masher or grater to rub an impression onto sheet metal (figure B). A meat tenderizer leaves a unique impression on metal, too.

Sandpaper will sand away a little color to give a weathered look to metal (figure C).

Paint a piece of sheet metal then sand off some of the paint for a weathered look.

Lay a bunch of washers on the table and then a piece of sheet metal on top; rub with your fingers to create an impression of circles in the metal.
