    alternative design
    Project by MaryLea Boatwright Quinn.

A wire mesh pocket can be used for many things. Make it a 12" x 12" pocket for cards of any occasion, or make a mini pocket on a page to hold tickets or brochures from an event. The mesh allows you to see through to view the items while adding lots of texture!

    Materials:

    Scrapyard 329 4" x 12" wire mesh
    card stock background sheet
    brads
    title
    Scrapyard 329 metal accents
    scissors
    paper piercer and pad
    adhesive
    Glue Dots
gold or silver ink pad or rub-ons

    1. Cut a 1/4-inch strip lengthwise off the piece of wire mesh. Save it for use behind the title. Position your piece of wire mesh flush to the bottom of your 12" x 12" card stock.

    2. Using a paper piercer, punch through the wire mesh and paper below in spots equidistant apart along the left and right side and bottom of page.

    3. Before securing the wire mesh, cut a 2-1/2-inch piece of card stock to make a flap at top of the pocket. Tear one side of it and use your ink to add a metallic edge to it that matches the mesh color (figure A).

    4. Fold it so that the torn edge is slightly longer than the other side and place over wire mesh with torn edge in front. Secure to wire mesh using Glue Dots. This allows you to protect the edge of the wire mesh from getting frayed with items going in and out of the pocket while giving it a decorative edge (figure B).

    5. You are now ready to secure the wire mesh to the page through the holes you created with the piercer. Make sure that you have enough brads along the bottom of your pocket so that items will not fall through.

    6. Create a title block using sticker letters, alphabet stamps or the computer (figure C). Our examples used sticker letters by Colorbok (Our Wedding) and Wordsworth (Our Anniversary). Mat it in a color that helps it stand off the page.

    7. Attach your small remaining piece of wire mesh to the top of the page using two more brads. Then glue the title block over it, centering it on the page.

    8. Add a metal embellishment to the title block to add interest and draw the eye. Our examples use Scrapyard's gold heritage embossed square and an embossed square "love" by Lindsay Ostrom.

    9. Your pocket is ready to fill. If you have a lot of cards, you may want to add an additional piece of card stock to the back of the project to add stability to the pocket.
