Project by Emily Adams.Emily Adams adds dimension to her layouts using metal. In this project, she presents three techniques with metal: printing, die-cutting and mosaics. This is achieved easily using Virtual Metal, an ultra-thin sheet of adhesive-backed, treated foil. Virtual Metal can add the look and properties of metal with less bulk than a sheet of card stock. It can be punched, die-cut, stamped or run through a laser printer or photocopier. Materials: 12" x 12" black card stock 8-1/2" x 11" gray card stock Magic Scraps brushed Virtual Metal Magic Scraps galvanized Virtual Metal Magic Scraps diamond plate Virtual Metal repositionable dry adhesive paper cutter scissors Quickutz die-cut machine and star font laser printer or a photocopier "Beltane" font, downloaded from the internet

1. Die-cut title from brushed metal (figure A). Make sure the metal surface (not the paper) is facing the cutting blade. 2. Peel metal letters from their paper backing to expose adhesive and place on card stock. 3. Cut gray paper to mat larger picture. Set picture aside. 4. Cut irregular shapes from all three finishes of metal (figure B). 5. Randomly arrange pieces around photo mat to create mosaic effect (figure C). Peel and stick to mat. Use adhesive to position photo on mosaic mat (see again figure C); then use it to attach mat to page. 6. Use adhesive to mount smaller photo directly on brushed metal. Trim and use the adhesive backing to attach to layout. 7. Type journaling on your computer. Run metal through your laser printer just like regular paper (figure D). Note: If you have an inkjet printer, print your journaling on a piece of plain white paper. Run metal through a photocopier to add text or titles. 8. Trim journaling and attach to finish. Try copying old photos onto it to mimic the look of tintypes! (figure E)
