    1. Measure two sheets of your 8-1/2 x 11" card stock in 3-1/2-inch increments (up the 11-inch side). You will have an extra half inch at the end.

    2. Cut on those lines. You will end up with six strips measuring 8-1/2" x 3-1/2".

    3. On your third piece of card stock, measure and make a mark 3-1/2 inches from the top and also 1-1/4 inches from each side.

    4. Place one of your cut strips within the marks on the flat piece of card stock and trace around it lightly with a pencil.

    5. With your ruler or just by eye, continue the lines you just drew out to the edge of the paper.

    6. From the lines on the 8-1/2 inch length, mark and draw lines 1-1/2 inch inside of each of those to the edges of the paper (figure A).

    7. Using the edges of the paper as the edge, cut out all of the extra parts, leaving attached strips at the top and two little "nubs" at the bottom (figure B).

    8. Fold your tabs inward--the ones on the sides first, then the small ones at the bottom, and finally the long ones on the top.

    9. Without gluing the side panel, fold it over and glue the bottom tab down first and then the top one (figure C).

    10. Fold the "cover" in half. Fold the paper strips in half.

    11. Stitch, with needle and thread, along the center fold of your pages (figures D and E). You may need to trim your pages at this stage so that when they are in the book, they will all be the same width. Fold them over and trim them down with a ruler and craft blade.

    12. Slip the first and last pages into the "pockets" on the cover. If you have difficulty, you may need to trim just a bit off of those pages, though be careful not to trim too much.

    13. Decorate your pages and covers, and add photos and journaling as you wish.
