    Project by Trudy Sigurdson.

If you love paper and creating unique page embellishments, then this technique is for you. By making some cuts and folds in your page, you can create striking borders and mats that will look as if you spent hours on them. Plus you are creating the look of depth and dimension without adding bulk to your pages. A perfect look for any themed layout!

    1. Trim the patterned paper and one sheet of the Maroon Clouds paper to 11-3/4" x 11-3/4".

    2. From the other sheet of Maroon Clouds paper, cut two strips that are 2-1/2" x 11-3/4" in size. Run the strips through a Xyron or apply an even layer of glue with a glue stick to the back of the strips.

    3. Attach the strips to the back of the patterned paper, lining up the edges of the strips to the paper. Be sure to place the strips on two connecting sides (so that they form an "L" shape).

    4. With the strips facing up, turn the paper so that the "L" shape is in the upper right corner. Lining the Diamond Folds template up with the edge of the paper, and starting about a half-inch in from the edge, trace out the cutting lines with a pencil. Finish tracing the lines about 1-1/2-inch from the edge of the paper.

    5. Repeat the same process with the second strip.

    6. Using a ruler and a sharp craft knife, cut along all of the pencil lines (figure A). Carefully erase all of your pencil lines.

    7. Turn the paper over to the front side and fold each diamond back on it's self and tuck the tip of the diamond under the one behind it (figure B). When all of the diamonds are folded back, attach the patterned paper to the black card stock and set aside.

    8. Measure your photograph and cut a mat from the black card stock that is 1/4-inch larger than your photo and attach. Cut a second mat from the patterned paper and a third mat again from the black card stock, increasing the size in 1/4-inch increments. Attach the photos and all of the mats together (figure C).

    9. To antique the gold photo corners, color the photo corners with a black pen. Blot (don't rub) the ink with a tissue. Repeat until you have the shade of antique gold that you like. Once the ink is dry, attach to the corners of the photo mat (see again figure C).

    10. Adhere your photo to the page.

    11. On the remaining piece of Maroon Clouds paper, print or write out your journaling, trim to size and mat on the remaining black card stock. Add to your page (figure D).

    12. From the black card stock, cut a skinny strip of card stock that is about 1/8" x 8-1/2". Center under your photo and journaling and stick down to the bottom of your page about a half-inch up from the bottom edge of the patterned paper.

    13. Glue a bead on each of the diamond folds and along the skinny black strip (see again figure B, and figure E).

    14. Finally, attach one of the small square stickers from the Royal Motif Corners sticker sheet to the top corner of the diamond folds and to the bottom right corner of the journaling block (figure F).
