For a special tribute album, make sure everyone writes a greeting or special memory in his or her own handwriting -- making the album more personal.
    Tips:

    • When planning a tribute album that you hope several people will contribute to, make it as easy for the participants as possible and more people will be involved.

    • Purchase an appropriate size album. 8" x 8" albums are a nice size for one photo and a small message per page.

    • Have one good photographer take all the photos, preferably against similar backgrounds. You want close ups for this sort of project. Have duplicate prints made and give each person one copy of their photo. Keep the duplicates in case any get lost. After you have finished the book you may want to give the duplicates to the participants.

    • Provide the members of your group with the album page paper.

    • Compile a collection of stickers, pens, and colored papers for everyone to use to decorate their page. Remember that the color of the album will show around the outside of each page. Choose your colors accordingly and to reflect the colors in the photos.

    • Journaling is the key to a tribute album. Encourage everyone to write from their heart and to use their own handwriting. This is one time when the personal touch is very appropriate.

A vellum envelope is yet another way to hide a personal message to the recipient.

    Figure A

    1. To create the left page, place photograph, run design line stickers horizontally across lower half of page. Center deckle-edge journal panel onto the design line.

    2. To create the right page, create vellum pockets using template (figure A). Attach pockets to page at opposite angles. Trim the fronts of envelopes with page outlines. Trim top and bottom of journal panels with additional design lines, then layer third color of design lines over the top.

    3. One one panel, place a sticker (in this case, a blue jay) in the right-hand corner. Back with a mirror-image sticker. Place an additional sticker design (in this case, a medallion) centered on the design line at the top of the other panel, back with a mirror image sticker.

    4. Use foam tape to "pop" a festive sticker away from the surface (in this example, a sparkle star is used). Leaving the paper backing on the mounting tape in place, powder the back of the star to remove the adhesive, then remove the protective paper and center the sticker over the second sticker motif (the star over the medallion, here) to complete the spread.
