Rubber-stamp expert Jane Beard shares some unique ideas with Crafty Kids host Diana Canova. Beard shows how a miniature puppet-show theater can easily be constructed by tracing a pattern, cutting it out and assembling it to form the structure. The puppets are created using stamped paper that has been cut out and attached to a stick (figure A).

Beard also demonstrates how unique pop-up cards can be created using rubber stamps (figure B). The particular card Beard creates is also a ring-toss game.

    Ring-Toss Pop-Up Card

    Materials:

    Kromecoat cardstock
    Western-theme rubber stamps
    Paint or markers
    Craft knife
    Ruler
    Glue stick
    Rubber gasket

    1. Prestamp paper and paint background and pop-ups.

    2. Use the craft knife and ruler to cut tabs through the folded card (figure C). (Using a premeasured template can make tabs easier to cut and more evenly spaced.)

    3. Once tabs are cut, fold them back. Fold each tab a few times to define folds and create flexibility.

    4. Open card and pull tabs up.

    5. Use glue stick to attach pop-up figure to each tab (figure D).

    6. Decorate another sheet of paper the same size to cover the outside of the card.
