Photo albums aren’t the only place for family pictures. Try making heirloom lockets to keep favorite photos close and give them a personal touch.

    Heirloom Locket and Pearl Bracelet
    Heirloom Locket and Pearl Bracelet

    Materials:

    1 pendant tray blank
    tiny family photos
    scrapbook paper
    old magazines
    ultrafine glitter
    1 small rhinestone
    glue stick
    Judi-Kins Diamond Glaze
    19 10 mm pearls
    elastic cording
    jump ring
    round-nose pliers
small scissors (with small points for delicate work)

    1. Shrink the photo, using either a computer program or copier (figure A).

    2. Designing the pendant is the fun part: think of the pendant as a little mini piece of art. Cut a piece of scrapbook paper to cover the bottom/back of the pendant tray and glue in place (figure B).

    3. Cut fun shapes small enough to fit in the pendant tray (figure C). Rummage through old magazines to find words like love, hope, smile and kiss, and cut out in "ransom note" style (figure D). Position both the photo and cutouts in the pendant tray and glue in place.

    4. Add a touch of sparkle by gluing a small rhinestone and sprinkling a bit of ultrafine glitter in the pendant tray (figure E). Set aside to dry.

    5. Apply Diamond Glaze in one continuous stroke, covering both the papers and glitter and reaching up the sides and top of the pendant tray (figure F). Pop any air bubbles with a needle or pin. The glaze will appear cloudy but will dry crystal clear. Let dry on a flat surface for at least 24 hours.

    6. Thread 19 pearls on the elastic cord and tie off with a secure double knot (figure G). Once dry, attach the pendant to the bracelet with pliers and a jump ring or attach to an existing bracelet (figure H).
