  • 3D Images from Photos: Shadowbox Frame
  • Make your photographic images come alive with a shadowbox frame.
    From "Get Framed"
    episode DGFR-101

    The finished product
Get Framed host Shahnaz LaCaze demonstrates how to create a fantastic piece of "pop art" by first coloring black and white photos with paint, then cutting out images to create a 3D effect and finally framing the whole assemblage using a shadowbox frame.

In this phase of the project, Shahnaz demonstrates how to assemble the shadowbox and create a special custom finish on the back of the frame for a free-standing piece.

    Materials:

    readymade shadowbox
    painted images and pedestals
    white foam core
    fabric
    double-stick tape
    glue
    filament tape
    spray-on adhesive

    Steps:

    • To begin assembly, flip over your ready-made frame (figure A).

    • Take your base image and adhere it to the backboard. You can use spray adhesive, mounting spray or double stick tape and a bit of glue (figure B).

    • Then mount the image (s) with the pedestals onto the base image (figure C).

Tip: Take your time when attaching your top image. You want to line the images up and then lower your pedestal down to attach.

    • Next, set the images with pedestal aside and clean the glass.

Glass-Cleaning Tip: You can use paper towels for this, but soft cloths such as old t-shirts work best.

    • Place the glass inside the shadowbox frame (figure D).
