Prepping the Crayons- Unwrap crayons and break into pieces and fill the bottom of a muffin tin.
- Sprinkle in glitter, mica, glass shards, etc.
- Place the contents into a 250-degree oven and melt (figure A). Turn the oven off.
- Wait 15 minutes for drying, and you're done.
Using an Iron to Create Cool Designs - Smear the melted crayon onto canvas paper.
- Add designs with melted metallic crayons with a travel iron.
- Use a mini-quilting iron (figure B) to melt additional crayons to add contrast. Make sure that the crayon layers aren't too thick, this could cause the crayon to crack off the paper.
Colored Paper - Place stickers on colored paper in a random fashion.
- Heat wax in a muffin tin on a hot plate.
- Brush on wax using a paint brush. If the wax is too thick you can use a mini-quilting iron to smooth out areas that are too thick.
- Remove stickers with nails or tac.
Adding Texture to Crayon Paintings - Start with a book page covered in crayon.
- Coat stamp with castaway stamp pad ink. (This will help the stamp to not stick too
the crayon). - Use a heat gun to re-melt the crayons on the paper and blow it around to thin it out.
- Rotate the paper in different directions to move melted crayon.
- While the crayon wax is hot, stamp into it with the coated stamp.
- Coat textured wallpaper with castaway stamp pad ink.
- While the crayon wax is hot, stamp into it with the textured wallpaper.
Create Ledger Paper - Heat up wax with heat gun.
- Add confetti pieces.
- Press a piece of sequin waste into hot wax as a variation.
- Use a comb to create designs into hot wax.
Attaching Crayon Paintings to a Mirror - Cut or punch out shapes from crayon paintings.
- Adhere shapes to frame with instant decoupage and sealer.
- Adhere a variety of embellishments such as crystals, jewels and sequins, with
tacky glue.
