Project designed by Traci Bautista.Materials: paper or fabric surface of choice variety of fluid acrylic paints paint scraper or other tools to scrape with scrap paper foam brush rubber stamps (hand-carved or commercial) dimensional glitter paints Painted Papers: Color Scraping - By using a simple color scarping technique you can paint a background and begin layering on glazes, accenting over the top by stamping with heavy bodied acrylics, freestyle switching and finish off with accents of handwritten lettering with your favorite paint markers, gel pens, glitter writers and white-out pens.
- To drizzle paint, randomly drizzle two or three acrylic fluid colors onto a piece of cotton muslin or paper.
- To scrape paint, use a paint scraper and scrape across the fabric to move paint around, the colors will mix together to create beautiful new colors and patterns. Be careful to only scrape each area only once.
Note: Scraping over an area multiple times will continue to mix the paint, which sometimes will lose the pattern. Place a second piece of cardstock next to fabric to scrape the excess paint onto, this will also give you an additional piece of paper to use in your artwork. - To add a contrast color, drizzle on another contrasted color and continue to scrape the paint around the fabric. Experiment with different scraping techniques, each will yield a different pattern. Continue to scrape until the entire piece of fabric is covered with paint.
- Continue to scrape until the entire piece of fabric is covered with paint.
- To stamp a design, apply a contrasting paint color with a foam brush to an unmounted stamp and press stamp into the painted fabric. Repeat stamping until satisfied with pattern.
- To stamp a pattern, add paint to another stamp in a different color and stamp design.
- Use kids foam shape tools to stamp shapes over color scrapes for added contrast.
- Add sparkle with dimensional glitter paint by drawing doodles to accent some of the stamped designs.
- Use bubble wrap or sequin waste to add patterns.
