    episode DADD-105

Crafts expert Debbie Stapley demonstrates a craft tool you might not be familiar with -- it's called a brayer. It looks like a mini paint roller and comes in handy on many different projects.

Brayers can usually be found at the craft stores in the foam or rubber department. They're great for applying different background patterns to your paper crafts or scrapbooking projects.

I recommend a dye-based ink when using a brayer. The ink dries faster and won't smear as easily as a pigment-based ink.

Load up your brayer by rolling it one direction over the inkpad. Make sure you get an even coat of color over the entire surface of the brayer.

Now you're ready to put brayer to paper. To get an even ink consistency, start rolling the brayer a couple of inches on scrap paper before rolling it onto the paper you're using for your project.

You can roll in any direction you want, up and down, crisscross or diagonally, so just experiment and let your creativity run wild. It's even fun to mix different colors of inks. Just make sure your first layer of ink is dry before putting on the next.

Remember to clean the brayer with warm water to remove the ink, and let it dry thoroughly.
