Measure 3-3/4" from the tall side of the cut piece and make a straight cut across the pipe at that point (figure C).Use the same process to create nine identical PVC pieces. Always cut the angled end of the pipe first, then make a straight cut to separate the piece from the rest of the pipe. Safety Alert: Don't try to rush the job by cutting several short pieces of pipe all at once and then cutting the angles: Holding the small pieces would put your hands far too close to the blade of the miter saw. Use PVC cleaner to remove all lettering and debris from the pipe sections. Make sure to work in a well-ventilated area when using PVC cleaner.Run beads of hot glue around the pipe sections to give them the look of sectioned bamboo (figure D). Once the hot glue cools, use a brush to apply a coat of dark stain to the inside and outside of each PVC section. To create the rack's base, cut one of the 12" pieces of composite decking board in half lengthwise.Use construction adhesive or a 2-part epoxy to adhere one of the cut pieces of decking to the full-width piece to create a small stairstep (figure E).Arrange the PVC sections on the base to determine their final position. Apply a layer of construction adhesive to the bottom of the pieces (figure F) and secure them to the base.Brush a coat of dark stain over the base. Let all of the stain and adhesives dry thoroughly. Seal the entire piece with a coat of spray polyurethane.Fill the rack with spice jars (figure G) and display it proudly!
