Plastic laundry baskets provide convenient storage for all types of projects and supplies.

Sewing expert Lynne Farris and Sandra Betzina, host of HGTV's Sew Perfect, share some great tips to keep your sewing projects and supplies neat and organized.

Lynne creates storage from a plastic laundry basket for each project. She keeps all the fabric, notions, trims and everything needed for a project in one basket. She finds the basket especially helpful when work on the project is interrupted for a few days.

To keep pattern pieces organized, Lynne pins them to large rectangles (2' by 3') of fabric-covered foam board hung on a wall. This keeps them in one handy place. For pattern pieces she uses over and over, Lynne fuses cut-out tissue patterns to cardboard and uses them as templates, holding them down with her hand while tracing the appropriate markings onto fabric.

Sandra uses a laundry basket to store leftover pieces of fabric that can be used as a contrasting lining on cuffs or collars.

Lynne stores crushable fabric on an expandable plastic laundry-drying rack. The racks can be attached to a wall and used for fabrics that would not usually be folded, such as velvet and interfacing.

A wallpaper tray is ideal for storing rolls of ribbon, trims and anything else that comes on a spool. The tray is an odd shape that is easy to tuck away in a corner. Or use a length of guttering mounted to a wall.

Sandra uses small baskets for storing packages of sewing-machine and hand-sewing needles. Use another small basket for sewing-machine feet.
