Kristin Nicholas uses many of the same techniques that Clara Lopez demonstrated earlier to make a standard white pillowcase unique.
Daisy PillowcasesMaterials: pillowcase embroidery floss in orange, chartreuse and pink (or 3 colors of your choice) embroidery needle transfer pen tracing paper iron see-through grid ruler for measuring 1. With a transfer pen, trace the flower design (see link at right) onto transfer paper (for ease of handling, you may want to cut around each flower, leaving a bit of margin) (figure A). 2. Measure up 6" and draw a line perpendicular to bottom edge of pillowcase. Mark the center point of the line and mark for the center flower. Mark 2 points, 1-1/2" and 3", on either side of the center mark for flowers.
3. Place the transfer face down at each point and iron to transfer it to the fabric. Do not use steam: use a dry iron (figure B).
4. Work the center of each flower in satin stitch with orange thread (figure C).5. Work a row of blanket stitch in chartreuse around the center of the flower (figure D). If your satin stitch wasn't perfect, the blanket stitch will camouflage the edges. 6. Work stem-stitch petals in pink around the flower (figure E).
