    Felt Flower Pins and Stems

    Materials:

    1 sheet cream-colored felt
    flower-petal template
    stipple brush
    mauve craft paint
    white craft paint
    scissors
    small pearls
    vintage button
    needle and thread
    pin back

    1. Cut felt into 5 petal shapes (think hearts with the pointy ends cut off), approximately 2"x2" (figure A) (see link to template, above right).

    2. Mix white and mauve paint to create a pale mauve shade. Tap off excess paint and stipple the outer edges of the felt petals, keeping the center cream-colored (figure B).

    3. Use a needle and thread to gather/pinch one edge of each petal with a running stitch. Push the needle back though to the first side and draw through the base of the petal once or twice to secure (figure C).

    4. Tie a knot to keep the gathered edge secure before moving to the next petal.

    5. Pinch another petal and thread the needle through the end; continue with each petal to achieve a flower shape (figure D).
