Wet-Felting Simple (and optional) steps to finish a felted piece From "Uncommon Threads" episode DUCT-157

Wet-felting can be used to smooth out almost any needle-felted project. Marie Spaulding demonstrates the process.

Materials:

towels
warm water
dish soap
mesh netting or cloth shower curtain
bamboo blind or bubble wrap

1. Lay the piece out on a sheet of bubble wrap or a matchstick blind. Cover it with mesh netting and thoroughly soak the piece with warm, soapy water and a sponge (figure A).

2. Once the piece is wet throughout, gently massage the surface (over the netting) with your fingertips and lather it up (figure B).

3. Continue felting by removing the netting and rolling the piece in the blind or bubble wrap (figure C).

4. When finished, rinse in cool water, roll in a towel and lay flat to dry overnight. Steam-iron it the next morning for a smooth finish.
