    Barcode Pillow
    Materials:

    12"x16" pillow form
    12" black zipper
black ribbon: 2 yd. each of 4 different widths
1/3 yd. white or cream cotton quilting fabric
1/3 yd. black cotton quilting fabric
1 bag adhesive black velveteen numbers
1-1/2 yd. white or cream 2"-wide grosgrain ribbon
    1-1/2 yd. white cotton cord
double-sided fusible tape in thin and thick sizes
    black thread
    rotary cutter and mat

    1. Using the pillow form as a template, cut out one piece of cream fabric, allowing for a 1" seam allowance all round (14"x18").

    2. Cut the back of the pillow out of black fabric in the same manner.

    3. Serge or zigzag the edges of each piece.

    4. Iron double-sided fusible tape to the back of several lengths of ribbon. For very wide ribbon, fuse two strips side by side (figure A). For very thin ribbon, cut the fusible tape to fit.

    5. Using a rotary cutter and guide, cut 12" lengths of ribbon with a straight edge.

    6. Remove backing tape from the ribbon strips.

    7. Take the cream fabric piece to the iron and turn back 4" from the bottom. Press with wrong sides together. This will become the guideline with which to line up the ribbon strips.

    8. Lay out the ribbon strips in a random barcode pattern and press down carefully by lining the bottom of the ribbon with the pressed guideline (figure B).

    9. Using the rotary cutter, trim off any excess ribbon from the top of the pillow front.

    10. Remove adhesive backing and stick down numbers 1" from the bottom of the ribbon (figure C). If it helps, you can press a second guideline to help keep them straight.

    11. Turn barcode over and press on the reverse side.

    12. Take the black fabric piece to the iron and turn one of the short sides in by 1-1/2"; press down, then pin and sew the zipper along that edge (figure D).

    13. Create piping out of grosgrain ribbon and cord. Pin and stitch down using a straight machine stitch and zipper foot.

    14. Pin piping to front of the pillow and sew in place.

    15. With right sides together and the zipper slightly open, sew the front and back together.

    16. Turn right side out and place the pillow form inside.
