Tina Katz creates a matching hat and one-piece, adorning both with felt shapes and a blanket stitch. After deciding on the design, she cuts the felt shapes and attaches them with the stitch. They can be customized for any baby or mother-to-be.

 Embroidered One-Piece and Hat
|
|
solid cotton one-piece and hat (color of your choosing) 9"x12" pieces of felt embroidery thread button stencil (optional) embroidery needle pins scissors1. Starting with a blank cotton one-piece and hat of your choosing (figure A), pick a shape and draw it onto the felt by hand, or use a stencil if you like.
2. Cut out the shape (or shapes) (figure B) and pin or place on the garment (figure C).
3. Using the whole thickness of the embroidery thread, begin to sew the shapes to the garment. Come up from underneath just outside the felt and bring the needle back down through the felt. When you come up again on the edge, make sure you catch the needle in the loop before bringing the needle down again in the felt to create the blanket stitch. Work your way around the edges until you come back to the first stitch. Make sure that you catch that last stitch with the needle to create the last loop. Finish off on the underside of the garment. 4. If you're making a flower, you can use a button for the center. In that case, after you make the last edge stitch, bring the needle up through the center of the flower and sew the button on with a simple X shape (figure D). Finish off on underside of garment.
