  • Appliqué Umbrella
  • Whether or not you have a dog, you'll love this umbrella that coordinates with our Designer Doggy Duds.
    From "Uncommon Threads"
    episode DUCT-129

The focus switches to humans as Susan Beal shows how to hand-stitch oilcloth cutouts to an umbrella to match your pet's new wardrobe. (This appliqué project looks great with or without a coordinating dog!)

    Materials:

    Appliqué Umbrella
remnant of oilcloth in the pattern of your choice
    scissors
    double-stick tape
    umbrella
    needle and thread

    1. Cut the desired shapes or patterns out of oilcloth, leaving 1/4" of extra material around the edge of the appliqué.

    2. Use double-stick tape to place it on the umbrella (figure A). Repeat to add as many appliqués as you like.

    3. Using small stitches, hand-sew the appliqué on all around the perimeter (figure B). Knot the thread securely when you reach the end.
