Emily Parson starts with photos of the sunflowers. She'll show how she traces those flowers onto acetate sheets and uses the elements to create her pattern. Then she'll explain how she has the pattern enlarged and uses that to create her finished quilt.
Materials: photos of flowers clear acetate ultra-fine Sharpie marker paper transparent tape 1. Trace a flower in many different positions on the clear acetate (figure A). After accumulating many different flowers and some leaves, experiment with positioning these single flowers into a larger composition by overlapping them. 2. When you have a composition you like, tape down all the pieces (figure B). Retrace, so you have the whole drawing on one piece of acetate.
3. Take this to a copy shop that has an OCE machine. This machine enlarges up to 36" wide by unlimited length. You may need to make two or three strips and tape them together, depending on how large you want the finished quilt to be (figure C).
