  • Dinosaur Dip
  • Jazz up your appetizers with a fun dinosaur dip bowl.
    From "Craft Lab"
    episode DCLB-133

Guest Clare Crespo joins host Jennifer Perkins and demonstrates how to play around with appetizers by creating a dinosaur dip bowl.

The squash acts as the bowl, while the zucchini and cucumbers become the legs and neck of the dinosaur.

    Materials for Dinosaur:

    1 acorn squash
    3 zucchini
    4 small pickling cucumbers
1 small green pepper or okra
    cloves
    kitchen knife
    large mixing bowl
    toothpicks
    paring knife
    medium mixing bowl
    peanut butter (for glue)

    Dip Ingredients:

    1 cup sour cream
    2 Tbs. fresh dill, chopped
    1 tsp. onion powder
    Salt and pepper to taste

Cut the acorn squash in half and slice off the stem. Scoop out the seeds.

Slice the top two inches off the zucchini at an angle. Attach this section back onto the zucchini with toothpicks to make the head of the dinosaur. Slice the other end of the zucchini at an angle and attach it to the acorn squash half.

Cut a small notch in the zucchini for the mouth and insert cloves for the eyes. Cut two zucchini in half for the legs. Pin the four zucchinis to the squash with toothpicks for legs.

Using a toothpick, attach the pepper or okra to the rear of the dinosaur for a tail.

    Materials and Ingredients:

    carrots unpeeled, and washed
    green bell peppers
    ice cubes

Cut the bottoms of the carrots evenly so they will stand up.

With a small knife or peeler, make 1/8" thick incisions randomly around the carrot to make scales.

Tip: Place the carrots in a bowl of ice water. The scales will separate from the carrots so they will resemble tree trunks.

Cut the tops off the peppers in a zigzag pattern. Cut a small hole out of the tip of the pepper and attach to the end of the standing carrot with a toothpick.

To make the dip, mix all the ingredients together in a medium bowl and spoon into the Dinosaur's belly. You can use store bought dip if you don't want to make the dip.
