    B. Original while you clear the clutter!
Michele Beschen has a dramatic way to clear some of the clutter off your coffee table—wall-mounted magazine holders made from linoleum.

The B. Original host cuts out the vinyl, then carves and paints it for an artistic, energetic look. Adapt this fun storage idea for any clutter-prone area: You can modify the design to hold papers, tools or just about anything. It's the organized way to B. Original.

    • Lay out a piece of the linoleum, back side up.

    • Lay a placemat on the linoleum and trace it to get the magazine holder shape.

Note: If you have trouble getting the vinyl to lay flat for tracing and cutting, place it in the sun to warm up and relax before

    • Set aside the placemat template and cut out the traced shape with a box cutter or sharp utility knife (figure A).

    • Fold the piece in half, with the slick finished side of the linoleum on the inside. The back of the linoleum will be the outside of the magazine holder.

    • Using a linoleum carving tool, carve a design on the outside being careful not to go too deep (figure B). Another option is to paint the vinyl first and then carve.

    • Lay the linoleum flat, paint the piece and allow to dry completely. Apply two coats of polyurethane.

    • Re-fold the piece over in the middle and use an awl to make a hole through both ends (figure C). Attach it to the wall.
