Materials:variety of small rocks
12" x 12" mirror tile with plain edge
masking tape
contact adhesive, tile adhesive or silicone glue
powdered grout mix
cardboard
razor blade
mirror-mounting clips
- Mask off the edges of your mirror tile with masking tape (figure A). The tape will protect your hands, make the tile easier to handle and leave a clear area for your mounting clips.
- Decide which areas of the mirror you want to remain exposed. Use cardboard and tape to mask off areas you dont want to cover with rock or grout.
- Arrange rocks however you like and glue in place with contact adhesive, tile adhesive or silicone glue (figure B). Glue the flattest side of your rock down to get best possible adhesion. You can also use glass gems or other small objects to add color and interest. Let the glue dry completely.
- Once the glue is completely dry, mix your grout according to the package instructions and press it into the spaces between the rocks (figure C). You also can leave your mirror grout-free if you prefer.
- Remove the cardboard and masking tape before the grout is completely set, and use a razor blade to scrape away any excess grout.
- Hang the mirror with mirror clips. Make sure your wall and hardware will support the added weight of the rocks. If you hang your mirror outdoors, seal it with a coat of sealant or spray polyurethane.
