Q: I love the look of a wreath on a front door. But I can't find one that looks good all year long. Do you have any suggestions for a wreath that I can make that will take me through the entire year?

A: There's something so inviting about a beautiful wreath hanging on a door for all of your visitors to see. One of my favorite designs is a monogram wreath. This beautiful wreath will be the perfect compliment to your home, and it's something that you can display all year long.

To cut out the wreath in the shape of a letter, you need some kind of a template. Go to your trusty computer and find the perfect font, then print out the letter in the largest size your computer will print. Take it to a copy center and have them enlarge it.

    1. Place the pattern down on plastic foam and trace around it with a permanent marker.

    2. Using a serrated knife, cut roughly around the monogram.

    3. Continue to trim down the foam to get a clearly shaped monogram. You can use another piece of foam to "sand" down the monogram as well. It's important to get a clearly defined shape so that when you add the natural elements, you can clearly see the shape.

    4. Use low-temp hot glue to cover the foam on all sides with the reindeer moss (you can pick this up at your local crafts store). The reindeer moss should be closely fit to maintain the monogram shape. You can use floral pins to secure any loose pieces.

    5. Attach floral embellishments with glue and floral pins; you can cover all over or leave much of the moss exposed.

    6. Spray the entire wreath with clear topcoat to help the dried flowers maintain their shape and color.

You can add seasonal touches to keep the wreath up-to-the-minute all year long!
