One thing is true about all of the millions of cars, trucks, RVs and motorcycles in the U.S.: They all have license plates. That's a lot of metaland Michele Beschen found something to do with it.In this project, the B. Original host uses license plates (called tags in some parts of the country) to make fun, funky storage boxes. You can find license plates easily at flea markets and yard sales; there may even be a stash of expired plates in your garage right now.

License Plate Storage BoxesMaterials: license plates (two per box) automotive electrical wire drill with small bit scrap wood saw measuring tape
- Using a small drill bit, drill evenly spaced holes along both short sides of both license plates (figure A)
- Measure the long edge of each license plate and mark the center point; do this on both long sides of the plate. Line up the center point at the edge of a counter and bend down at a 90 degree angle (figure B).
- Line up the plates in a square and lace the short ends together (figure C). In keeping with the automotive theme, Michele Beschen used automotive electrical wire. This wire comes in a variety of colors; choose one that works well with the plates you're using. Fit the edge of one license plate into the lip at the edge of the other, and the plates shouldn't slide around during lacing. Curl the wire at the end of the seams to hold them in place.
- Square up the laced box and measure for the bottom. Cut the bottom from a piece of scrap wood and secure with glue or staples.
