Building furniture out of copper pipe is a lot like building with Tinker Toys – you use straight pieces and connectors to ge the desired shape. But, unlike the beloved children's building toy, copper pipe is strong, beautiful and a natural for mission-style furniture.

Here are some tips from metal artist Dan Johnson for anyone interested in their own copper pipe furniture:

• Start with a simple piece, like an end table, before you move on to something larger like a chair or couch.

• Use 3/4" pipe for furniture.

• Experiment with different shapes and map out your designs on paper. It's easy to figure out your measurements and fitting needs when you have a clear diagram to go by.
