Wall sconces are decorative brackets that hold candles and other sources of light. Vicki Payne, host of DIY Crafts, shows how to make wall sconces from copper refrigerator tubing.

    Materials:

    1/4"-diameter copper refrigeration tubing
    18-gauge copper wire
    Glass beads
    Wire cutters
    Needle-nose pliers
    Glass votive candleholder
    Votive candle
    Copper screening

    1. Cut a 40"-long piece of copper refrigeration tubing. With needle-nose pliers, bend one end around to create a hook for hanging.

    2. Grasp the tubing at both ends, and bend it in an arc in the center (figure A).

    3. To create the holder portion for the votive candleholder, curve the end of the tubing opposite the hook in a horizontal spiral. Place the votive holder into the spiral to make sure it fits. Adjust as necessary (figure B).

    4. Thread a few glass beads onto a short piece of 18-gauge copper wire. Bend the ends of the wire to secure the beads. Attach the wire to the bottom of the sconce by looping it around the refrigeration tubing. Add as many beads as you like (figure C).

    5. If desired, place a votive candleholder into the center of a square piece of copper screening, and shape the screening around the candleholder. Turn the top edges of the screening back (figure D). Place the screening and the candleholder into the spiral tubing holder. Add beads to the screen, if desired.
