Extra-Easy Window TreatmentsMaterials: double coat hooks screwdriver or drill with screwdriver bit clip rings measuring tape fabric
- Determine how many hooks to hang. The number of hooks will affect how the fabric drapes, so visualize what effect you want for the final window. Whether you use several hooks or just a few, you need to use an odd number.
- Measure and mark the center of the top piece of window trim. Using the screws that come with the coat hooks, attach the hook directly to the wall about an inch above the trim (figure A). Michele Beschen prefers to use screws instead of drywall anchors if shes hanging lightweight fabrics; if you are hanging something heavy, use the anchors.
- Install another hook at each end of the window, at the same height as the first hook. Line the hooks up with the edge of the window trim, or place them outside the trim if desired.
- Determine where to place the remaining hooks for the desired drape effect; Michele Beschen placed hers about 10" apart. Install the remaining hooks, spacing them evenly and lining them up with the ones already on the wall
- Clip rings simple rings attached to a clip are available wherever curtain and drape accessories are sold. Attach clip rings to the fabric, then loop the rings over the hooks (figure B).
- Make sure to choose a fabric that doesnt fray or unravel. If draped just right, the edges dont need to be finished.
- For a two-layer effect, attach clip rings to a coordinating or contrasting fabric and loop the rings over the same set of hooks.
