A plain canvas bag gets a "hole" new look with overlapping shapes and colorful designs.
Ring-Stamped Tote BagMaterials: 1 canvas tote bag 3 small plastic plates fabric paint: orange, brown and tan textile medium 3 plastic cups various sizes iron stack of old newspapers circular bamboo purse handles
1. Use the opening of plastic cups to create stamps.2. First, press the bag to remove any wrinkles then place newspaper in the bag to prevent paint from seeping through to the other side. Tuck in the straps to protect them from paint drips (figure A).
3. Pour a small amount of each paint color on the plates; add textile medium to make the acrylic paint permanent (figure B). Mix well and dip the "ring" opening of the cup into the paint (figure C). Shake off any excess paint and press ring onto the bag to create stamped ring shapes (figure D).
4. The paint pattern is as follows: the largest cup is painted with dark brown paint, the medium cup is painted with orange paint and the smallest cup is painted with tan paint. Let the cups dry for 25 hours, then heat set. 5. Go into the existing handle area and fold the handles over the bamboo rings (figure E). Pin handles in place and cut away excess (figure F).
6. Remove pins and "seal" off edges: using a flame, sear edges of the nylon webbing to prevent fraying (figure G). Pin handles back into place, anduse a needle and thread to stitch them onto tote (figure H).
