In this segment, April and Lindsay sew two simple straight-stitched window panels and a valance to frame the window and disguise an ugly pipe. Then April shows Lindsay how to use heavy-duty hook-and-loop tape to attach the valance to the pipe.
Materials Fabric Measuring tape Lining Sewing machine Velcro? hook-and-loop tape Scissors
1. Measure the width of the window opening and the length of the panes.2. Cut the valance width across the desired measurement (e.g., 75") and cut length (e.g., 16") down, allowing 1" on each end for the seam allowance. Cut the lining the same size. 3. Place right sides of fabric and lining together and sew three sides. Turn right side out and press. Sew the ends closed. 4. Fold a 2" doubled hem on the bottom and a 1-1/2" doubled hem on the sides of the panel. Place the top of one side of the valance on the underneath side of one panel and baste in place. Repeat on the other side. 5. Cut a strip of hook-and-loop tape to sew across the top valance. The other piece of tape should be attached to a pipe or pole.
