- Embellishing a pillowcase is a great way to create decorative pillows. Cut an area from the vintage curtain pillow to applique. Chose different patterns that you want to use and place a piece of fusible web (figure A) behind each pattern. Use pins to hold the material in place.
Note: Fusible web stops edges from fraying and stabilizes the fabric. It has a matte side and a shiny side. The shiny side has adhesive on it. - Roughly cut out around your patterns.
- If there are any edges of the fusible web sticking out, trim them off (figure B) because they will stick to your iron.
- Press the patterns with the fusible web according to the manufacturers directions -- with the rough side to the wrong side of the fabric.
- After pressing, gently trim around each pattern and then place them randomly in the center of the pillowcase creating a design (figure C).
- Iron each piece onto the pillowcase. Remove the paper backing, place the pattern onto the pillowcase, and iron according to the manufacturer's directions.
Note: When you wash the pillowcase, make sure it is on a cold setting and a gentle cycle. Do not have it dry cleaned. - For a pretty finishing touch, sew on a decorative trim along the hem on the opening of the pillowcase.
