    1. To make your own pillow, measure the width and height of the pillow form you will be using.

    2. Cut out fabric, allowing for 1/2" seam allowance all the way around on the front panel. Cut back panel and an extra 1/2" in the width to allow for a hemmed opening. Cut the back panel in half width wise. You now have three pieces of material (figure A).

    3. Press back the two middle seams on the two shorter panels and sew them all the way down only on the side where the two panels will overlap. You will not be putting in a zipper or button to close it.

Note: Backstitching fabric secures the starting or end stitches.

    4. Iron all three panels, pressing seam allowances well.

    5. Lay front panel face up and pin both back panels in place, face down. Make sure the two hemmed edges overlap in the middle.

Tip: After you have pinned the pillow together, clip the corners (figure B). Clipping the corners will give the pillows a finished look.

    6. Sew around the outer edges on sewing machine. Clean up loose threads and turn right side out. Insert pillow form.

    7. Measure the pillow from seam to seam. Select a piece of the vintage curtain panel and cut to the length measurement of the pillow and to the width desired.

    8. Cut a piece of coordinating fabric to the same size as the vintage piece. Turn down the sides of the two pieces and press them. Pressing will make it a lot easier to sew.

Note: You can use the vintage curtain fabric for the entire pillow, or use a coordinating piece of fabric if you don't have enough of the vintage fabric.

    9. Sew down the long sides of each piece of fabric.

    10. Place the two good sides together and then just sew the ends together (figure C).

    11. Turn it inside out and you now have a beautiful sleeve for your pillow. You can sew on decorative buttons as desired, and then put the sleeve over your pillow.

Note: In segment two, you will find instructions on making the decorative buttons.
