Paper LanternsAdd extra ambience to your home with easy paper lanterns and iconic handmade candle holders.
Materials:large china ball lamp fancy ribbons and trims (enough to go around the china ball) low-temp hot glue fabric sewing machine
1. Assemble the lamp according to instructions. Using low-temp hot glue, glue ribbons around the ball (figure A). Use any existing seams on the ball as a guide for straight lines; different colors, textures and widths of ribbon help create an eclectic look (figure B).
2. At the open top and bottom of the lamp, cut ribbon to fit with 1" of overhang. Continue with the same ribbon directly opposite to create a balanced look (figure C). 3. Carefully turn under, glue and trim the overhanging ribbon at each opening (figure D).
4. Measure the length of the lamp cord. Cut 4" strips of fabric and using a sewing machine, piece the strips together until the resulting strip is 3 times the length of the cord (figure E). 5. Fold the strip in half lengthwise with the seams attaching the strips facing the outside (figure F). Stitch the side seam closed and turn the tube right side out. 6. Thread cord through the fabric tube and gather the tube. Fold under the end and hand-hem it (figure G).
Cha-Cha-Cha Candle
Materials:tall glass candle découpage medium fun image foam brush glitter glue ribbon tacky glue coil bracelet blanks round-nose pliers miscellaneous beads and baubles
1. Trim and/or resize the image to fit on the candle (figure A). Use a foam brush to coat the back of the image with découpage medium (figure B). Apply the image to the candle, smoothing out air bubbles as you work (figure C).
Note: The image used here was printed on an inkjet printer; découpage medium was not applied to the front of the image to prevent smudging. 2. Use glitter glue to highlight areas of interest on the image (figure D). Jewel glue can be used to apply sequins or rhinestones to a candle. Glue ribbon around the top and/or bottom of the candle with tacky glue (figure E). 3. Use round-nose pliers to create a small loop at one end of the bracelet coil; thread beads and baubles onto the coil, leaving enough space at the end to form another loop (figure F).
4. When the glue is dry, slip the beaded coil over the candle. The coil can be reused on other candles or worn as a bracelet.
