Get ready to cha-cha-cha: Cathie Filian and Steve Piacenza are sharing some spicy craft ideas. They design chalk wall hangings that are hard to resist, set a festive mood with paper lanterns and eye-catching candles, and top it all off with delicious puff-pastry rolls and to-die-for mojitos.

    Chalk and Resist Wall Hangings
    Materials:

    white school glue
    needle-nose bottle (optional)
    light box
    line drawing to trace
    soft chalk art pastels
    chalk pencils
    spray fixative or aerosol hairspray
    light-colored construction paper
    picture frame

    1. Place a line drawing on the light box, turn the box on and position light-colored construction paper over the image (figure A).

    2. Using the tip of the glue bottle, trace the image outline (figure B). If the image is detailed, you can transfer the glue to a needle-nosed bottle. Chalk won’t stick to the glue, so outline but do not fill in the design.

    3. Fill in small areas using chalk pencils; use pastel chalk to fill in larger areas of the image (figure C). Blend and spread colors with cotton swabs and cotton balls (figure D).
