    Filmstrip Lampshade
    Tools:

    paper or fabric lampshade (circular)
processed 35mm film (available at online auction sites)
    scissors
trim (enough to go around the top and bottom of the lampshade)
    glue gun and glue sticks
    measuring tape

    1. Measure the height of the lampshade: this will be the length you will cut the filmstrips. Cut as many filmstrips as needed to go around the lampshade (figure A). Keep in mind that you can overlap the filmstrips or space them out as you like.

    2. Beginning at the center seam of the lampshade and working on the top only, hot-glue the top edge of the filmstrip to the top edge of the lampshade (figure B). Work your way around the top until you have filled in the entire lampshade (figure C). By doing just the top edge first, you'll find that the filmstrips will line up more easily.

    3. Working on the bottom of the lampshade, hot-glue the bottom edge of the filmstrip to the bottom edge of the lampshade (figure D). Make sure you keep the film straight and pull it tight and flat against the lampshade (figure E). Work your way around the bottom edge until all the strips are hot-glued.

    4. Use scissors to trim away any overhang of film on the top and bottom edge of the lampshade.

    5. Hot-glue trim (figure F) around the top and bottom edges to cover the ends of the filmstrips and create a finished look (figure G).
