Business Card CasesVinyl and iron-on transfers are the basis for these creative business card cases that guarantee youll make a lasting impression.
Materials:turquoise vinyl clear vinyl fabric to line the wallet white or light-colored fabric spray adhesive pinking shears scissors ruler pencil clothespin small scrap of felt thread leather needle iron-on transfer paper (and appropriate printer) iron adhesive-backed hook-and-loop dots 1. Cut a piece of 16"x4" turquoise vinyl. Using pinking shears, cut one piece of 4"x3-3/4" lining fabric and two pieces of 3-3/4"x2-1/2" lining fabric. 2. Mark the fold lines on the back of the large piece of vinyl, 3-1/2" from each end (figure A).
3. Make a small pencil mark in the center of the underside of the turquoise vinyl. Coat the underside of the lining fabric with spray adhesive and place in the center, on the underside, of the turquoise vinyl (the pencil mark helps locate the center point) (figure B). Place the fabric with the slightly longer edge running horizontally along the vinyl.
4. Use a liberal amount of spray adhesive to glue the smaller pieces of fabric on the right side of the vinyl, approximately 1/4" in from each edge (figure C). For added reinforcement, stitch the fabric pieces in place (recommended if the card case will be used regularly).5. Cut a 4 x2" piece of clear vinyl. Lay the vinyl on top of one of the smaller pieces of lining fabric and, using a running stitch or backstitch, sew the clear vinyl down along the 4" edge that is farthest away from the edge of the turquoise vinyl (figure D). Use a leather needle and a double strand of thread for extra strength.
6. On the wrong side of the turquoise vinyl, draw a straight vertical line 3-1/2" in from each edge. Fold along each of these lines, keeping the wrong sides of the vinyl together, creating two pockets. Use a whipstitch to sew the pockets in place (again, with a double strand of thread) (figure E). Use a clothespin to hold the vinyl together while sewing. Place a small scrap of felt between the vinyl and the clothespin to keep the clothespin from denting or scratching the vinyl. When sewing the side of the wallet with clear vinyl, make sure to stitch the vinyl; this will create a clear pocket (figure F).
7. Choose an image. If the image has text on it, create a mirror image of the text on a computer. Print the image onto iron-on transfer paper (figure G). Following the transfer paper instructions, transfer the image onto a white or light-colored piece of fabric.8. Using pinking shears, cut and size the transferred image to fit on the outside of the wallet (figure H). Attach the image with spray adhesive. 9. Attach adhesive-backed hook-and-loop dots to the inside corners of the wallet (figure I).
