Button up a new look with this bracelet.
If you can sew on a button, you can have custom bracelets to go with every outfit, with a little help from Michele Beschen. The B. Original host shares her how-to for a simple elastic bracelet covered in buttons.

If you don't have a bursting button jar at home to raid, Michele Beschen suggests hitting the junk stores and antique stores. That's where she finds big jars of buttons at good prices – a treasure trove for anyone who wants to B. Original with buttons. Scroll down for the bracelet how-to, and get buttoning.

    Materials:

    buttons
    wide elastic band
    scissors
    needle and thread

    • Use a wide band of elastic for this project – the wider the better. Dye the elastic or leave it natural.

    • Cut a piece of the elastic long enough for a snug fit around your wrist with a 1/2" overlap (figure A).

    • Select a variety of buttons and decide how to arrange them on the elastic; overlap a few if you want to give the bracelet more dimension. Leave room to sew the overlapping edges of elastic together.

    • Stitch the buttons in place securely (figure B). Tie the stitches off between the buttons and the elastic instead of on the back of the elastic; this will keep the knots from rubbing on your wrist. Let some of the buttons hang over the edge of the elastic, and top some buttons off with beads.

    • Stitch the ends of the elastic together and admire the finished bracelet (figure C). Before long, you'll start making one for every outfit!
