Tips: - Keep a moist towel nearby to wrap up extra clay, preventing it from drying out.
- If the clay dries to the touch, dip your fingers in water to moisten.
- Moisten a clay joint to help it adhere better.
- Don't bake this type of clay; it tends to bring air bubbles to the surface.
Dogwood Flowers1. Flatten four pea-size balls, and then shape into teardrops. 2. Pinch the edges of the teardrop to flatten and give it a leaf shape (figure A). 3. Texture the leaves using a clay shaper beginning at the point, and then dragging the side of the clay shaper to the opposite end. 4. Flatten another pea-size ball, and then dab a drop of water to the top. 5. Place all four petal points together onto the flattened ball. 6. Add tiny balls of clay to the center to fill. Leaves 1. Flatten the pea-size balls, and then shape into teardrops. 2. Pull the edges to feather the clay thin. 3. Draw in veins using a clay shaper. 4. Scrape bits and pieces of clay for filler.
5. Flatten craft porcelain clay with a brayer, and then cut out the desired shape. 6. Arrange the leaves and flowers as desired (figure B). 7. Apply color wash to the petals, leaves, and foliage as desired using watercolor crayons (figure C). 8. Allow to dry for 24 hours. 9. Fill any open spaces with foliage or leaves, and color wash. 10. Glue a pin onto the back.
